DIY Painting

Painting is one of the easiest ways to update the look of your home. You can change the mood of a room in no time at all. It’s easy to paint your home – the key is taking the time to prepare the walls properly and getting the right tools.

Never skimp on buying quality rollers or brushes – loose bristles and badly fitting rollers will make the job so much harder. Having the right tools will make the job easier and give you a great professional finish. Selleys range of brushes and rollers will help you to get any painting job done. They feature a unique tapered edge to get into tricky corners, and deliver clean and professional results on trimmings and edges.

Preparing for painting

  1. Firstly, remove any peeling or flaking paint with a stainless steel tipped Rota Cota Scraper
  2. Then fill any cracks, gaps or holes. Take a look at Selleys range of fillers which can make this job easy. Don’t forget to lightly sand over your filled areas to get a smooth finish.
  3. Clean walls with a general purpose cleaner such as Sugar Soap to remove any build-up of grime or grease on the walls. If there is mould on the walls, use Selleys Rapid Mould Killer to remove it before painting.
  4. Finally cover your floors and furnishings with Rota Cota Drop Cloths to protect them from paint splatters. You should also tape plastic sheets over doors to other rooms to help contain dust and fumes. Use two sheets, leaving one open on the left and the other on the right so they seal from dust but still let you walk through.
